Are you Ready if Disaster Strikes?
9/17/2019 (Permalink)
The likelihood of you and your family’s survival in an emergency depends largely on the plans you have in place should disaster strike. Whether it’s a flood, fire, storm damage, earthquake, hurricane or whatever the case, having a plan in place and the tools to make it on your own for at least three days is crucial. The time to prepare is now!
Creating a kit of emergency supplies is a must. Fresh water and food are your first consideration. Plan to have at least a gallon of drinking water per person per day. Include at minimum a three-day supply of non-perishable foods that are easily stored with little preparation. Food items such as dried fruit, protein and granola bars, canned foods, cereals and nuts are perfect. Consider packing warm clothes and a sleeping bag for cold weather climates. Also include a first aid kit as well as a battery-operated radio, extra batteries, flashlight and a can opener. Don’t forget any specific or unique items you or your family may need such as medicines, supplies for your pets etc.
Now that you have an emergency supply kit ready, the next step is to have a plan of action. Create a system of communication between family members and/or co-workers. Keep in mind that emergencies can happen while at home or at your place of business. Ensuring that everyone knows the plan and reviewing it ahead of time is important.
