Avoid Fire Damage this Holiday Season
As the holiday season approaches and you find yourself in the kitchen making preparations for a delicious Thanksgiving feast, fire safety precautions should be taken. According to the NEPA, cooking is the main cause of home fires and injuries. Review the following safety tips to ensure a safe, enjoyable holiday.
- Never leave the kitchen while cooking. Leaving cooking unattended even for a short period while frying, grilling or broiling could lead to a kitchen fire disaster.
- Set a timer while cooking to ensure you do not forget something on the stove or in the oven. Never leave the home while using any kitchen equipment or appliance.
- It’s best to keep children away from the cooking area.
- Be mindful of where you’re placing oven mitts, wooden utensils, plastic bags or paper, towels etc. Keep anything flammable away from the stove, oven or other kitchen appliances that generate heat.
- Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen year round and know how to use it.
SERVPRO of East Brunswick Princeton Meadows hopes that these tips will be a reminder to our local East Brunswick residents and those throughout New Jersey to make fire prevention a priority during this holiday season.
