Preventing Summer Flooding and Water Damage

In the past week, if not couple of weeks, the suffocating heat has hit the east coast with a vengeance. Rest assured, the sweat and discomfort is about to go away even if it’s just for a while. With severe heat, always comes a tumultuous storm to break the weather. SERVPRO of East Brunswick / Princeton Meadows is here to remind you that even though the storms might seem like a relief, everyone should always stay prepared.
While awaiting the much calmer weather, there are some things that you should do to make sure that the storm does not add unnecessary stress. One potential major issue: flooding and water damage. Fortunately, there are some easy preventative steps you can take to make sure water damage is not a major concern.
- Update and maintain your drainage in the yard. This can be as simple as adding extra landscaping or purchasing plastic drainage to lead the water away from the home. The further the water is, the less likely it is going to be a problem.
- Check your sump pump. The sump pump is a life-savor, constantly working to drain water as the levels exceed the foundation and expel the water away from the house. Make sure your sump pump is in good condition and check on it during a rain storm to ensure it has not stopped working.
Nevertheless, these are just prevention methods and sometimes things go beyond our control. In those moments where everything seems to be going wrong, just remember to BREATHE and call SERVPRO of East Brunswick/Princeton Meadows (732) 432-9800 so we can take the worry out of your hands.
